- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1 ⅓ cups water
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 1 container (8 ounces) frozen whipped topping, thawed (such as Cool Whip), divided
- Caramel and almonds coating
- 40 gm butter — melted
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- 3 egg whites
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Step-1. Preheat the oven at 350°F and grease the 13-by-9-inch baking pan
Step-2. According to the package instructions, prepare a cake mix, then stir in the baking powder and flour. Add sugar, water, oil, and vanilla extract (if using) into it and stir until well mixed. Pour the batter into the greased pan and bake for approximately 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into its center comes out clean. Remove and let it cool in the pan
Step-3. Meanwhile, prepare a custard cream. Combine the flour and sugar in a medium saucepan, then stir in the water. Beat egg yolks lightly, then whisk into the flour mixture until smooth. Cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly (do not boil)
Step-4. In another bowl, beat egg whites with a mixer on high speed until stiff peaks form; gradually add in sugar and continue beating until glossy peaks form.
Step-5. To assemble the cake, spread the cooled cake with some custard cream and refrigerate it until completely cool. Place on a well-greased cake board and spread the caramel over it. Top it with the chilled sponge layer and ice with chocolate icing using a butter knife or spatula
Step-6. Refrigerate overnight before cutting into squares.
Step-7. Combine melted butter, flour, and baking soda in a large bowl; mix until thoroughly combined. To assemble the cake:
1. Place a cake layer flat side down in front of you. Combine the butter, flour, and cocoa powder in a microwave-safe bowl. Mix well.
2. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir and microwave for another 30 seconds until brown and beginning to boil. Immediately pour over the cake layer and spread to cover it completely. Repeat with all remaining cake layers
3. Refrigerate with the remaining custard cream for about 2 hours.
